Hemp Protein Smoothie with Walnuts and Berries


Let it go. How hard is it to let go of the things that take us on an emotional roller coaster ride. I carry a lot of the so called emotional baggage from my past. I held on to it for the longest time, until I found a reason to let go of the baggage. The reason was the little guy. His presence in my life gives me a reason, a purpose to let go of all the yucky feelings and emotions and hold on to the little joys.Soon enough I realized that the only person who had the ability to let go was "Me".  




As Dr.Seuss says it "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You". You have the most prized possession of making yourself happy, just by letting go. Let go of  those unwanted emotions, hatred, sadness, disappointment and all that's left is for you to be  happy and blissful. There are different shades in life, you embrace the ones that make you happy and the others will disappear, just like the shades of dawn and dusk. 




Sometimes we may have to let go of age old notions and accept the bigger, better and newer notions. I grew up listening to the benefits of animal protein and how people who don't consume the much coveted non-vegetarian food are deprived of the so called complete essential proteins. I even chose to fed my little guy chicken/fish every other day for the fear of him not getting enough protein. Over the years numerous studies have tried to break this notion. 

While animal protein is the complete protein with all the essential amino acids, it is loaded with other unpleasant things like fat and cholesterol.Animal proteins come with the added disadvantage of carrying the hormones and antibiotics that are being fed to the animals. Plant  proteins are easier to absorb and assimilate in the body and are a much healthier option. 

Hemp seed protein is one of the best plant based proteins available. They have all the essential aminoacids and are packed with the goodness of high fiber. Cooking does denature the proteins a bit, so I figured adding the Hemp protein powder to smoothies will be the best way to let go of my animal protein fascination and embrace the plant proteins. 


1 cup of 2% fat milk

1 cup of frozen or fresh berries

1 tsp cardamom

2 tsp honey

1/2 tsp turmeric

2 tsps Hemp protein powder

1/4 cup walnuts

1 tsp chia seeds




Blend them together and let go of all your inhibitions culinary and otherwise. Try something new, experiment with an ingredient and live life.
